On-Boarding Millennials
Managing the Millennials
How does a generation gap come about?

Abstracts

As evidenced in the popular media, the dierences between generations in the workplace has created quite a buzz. Most any manager you speak with understands the phenomenon and can readily describe their own challenges with respect to managing Millennials (aka GenY). On the other hand, Millennials are experiencing their own challenges when it comes to relating with managers and making the transition to work life. I will be speaking about core competencies needed for managing today’s workforce. The competencies are the result of my research on the topic of managing across generations. I will also speak about behaviors that undermine eectiveness with respect to leading younger employees. I will address challenges younger workers face and what they can do to overcome roadblocks they face in the workplace. Attendees will learn skills they can immediately use when they get back to the oce or home. One thing that dierentiates my work in the space is that I introduce a theoretical framework for why generational analysis is valid and useful for strategizing about today’s workforce (why are we even talking about generations?). As you will see in my topic outline, I address the subject matter from organizational culture, management, onboarding, and leader pipeline development perspectives.
